2024 Grand Marshal
Carolyn Poll Child
Carolyn Poll Child has lived in West Haven since she and her late husband, Dick (Roy) Child moved to Wilson in 1964. Carolyn has loved living in West Haven and cherishes her neighbors and lifelong friends she has made in this great community.
Carolyn and Dick raised their five children – Jeff Child, Lori White, Jodi Merrill, Ryan Child, and Lindsay Nelson in West Haven. Carolyn coached many youth softball and baseball teams over the years and was very involved in the schools and in the community. She served as the second PTA President at Kanesville Elementary and obtained grant money to buy and install the first playground equipment at the school. She served on Kanesville’s Community Council and represented the school at the district level.
Dick and Carolyn were involved in the original planning and creation of the R. Kenneth Baldwin Country Park. Carolyn was instrumental in raising the necessary funding to establish the rodeo arena, a sport her family was involved in for many years. She enjoys seeing the growth that has occurred in West Haven, and the many families who get to use the park and rodeo arena often.
Carolyn served in many church callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, and Stake Relief Society President. She enjoys continuing to serve her neighbors today and participating in her ward’s activities.
Raised in South Weber, Utah, she was the 10th child of Bill and Lavern Poll. She graduated from Davis High School. Carolyn played professional softball for the Utah Shamrock Softball team and traveled throughout the Intermountain States playing in tournaments. She worked for the federal government at the Clearfield Defense Depot and retired with 30 years of service.
Carolyn’s greatest joy comes from being with her children and family, which now includes 20 wonderful grandchildren and 8 adorable great-granddaughters.
